Art You Tweeting

15th Jun 2010 | Subscribe via RSS

Last week I went to a talk by Twitter Guru Mark Shaw www.markshaw.biz . Before I heard him speak I was convinced that Twitter was for sad people who had nothing better to do than tell the world what they had for lunch or were famous enough to expect people to actually care what they had for lunch.

But I rushed home afterwards, fired up the pc and got tweeting. Mark gave some very useful advice on how to Tweet, and more importantly how not to and apparently turning up is not enough, it’s all about being content driven and humanising the brand, which may seem a long way from what we as artists want to do. But as Mark says it is all about real people, talking about real stuff, right now – and telling a story – and that’s good enough for me.

I have lots of opinions and ideas and like talking about my work so being able to share them in a short sentence a few times a day seemed ideal, I view it as my mini-blog. And after a few days it is paying off, I already have Followers, and not all of them are my mates, one is even a rather fabulous and fashionable design shop in Shoreditch……….I’ll let you know if anything develops in a concrete way.

It’s really easy to join in, just go to Twitter.com and sign up. I’m there as @AlexandraArtist so give me a tweet when you arrive! I’ll also be interested to know what you all think about Twitter……….and if any of you are already tweeting.??

Hi! I’m on twitter @cnualart, and I’m researching how visual artists use all online goodies like websites, blogs and, of course, Twitter! More on @artistexposure.

Personally I enjoy using it, and I find a lot of interesting links on it. But I also want to meet more independent artists on it!

Hi Alexandra! I tweet you ;-) At the beginning, I used it a lot, but after a while I have been tired with it. Now I am more interested with facebook and Flickr. Also, I have been using Twitter as a reference point for works that resonate to me. Few weeks ago, I decided to put all the links on a blog. Just find out a name ‘botanicbotanic’. So the next days-weeks-months, I will nourish this visual platform with most of my twitters. :-) But you’re right; twitter is a great random source of links and so discoveries. :-)

great to hear from you Cristina and Nathalie. I’ve been reading your posts Nathalie and really like your work, and your words. I’m going to see what happens with twitter – it’s an interesting experiment. I’m very bored with Facebook but its a great way to see what my family are doing!

Also, I just found out that Flickr releases an app that allows you to curate your favorites. I am going to play with it.
