ABOUT THE SELECTION
Atlas by John Hainsworth defined the criteria for my whole selection by presenting a striking and heightened version of reality. Wrynose Pass II by Alistair Tucker followed suit as I felt it extended the elemental subject in a physical and reactive way, then the video editor in me couldn’t resist juxtaposing Water 12 by Joanne Mumford. Throughout my choices I have focused on pieces which present a mood larger than their subject matter, and while the human presence is muted, I hope the selection as a whole creates an impression of the human struggle to both define and fit into nature at the same time.
ABOUT ME
As a filmmaker I’m primarily interested in motion. Cinema deals with physicality in a way that’s completely separate to any other art form and allows us to see space and time in a condensed form. When I set out to make films I don’t think about drama in a traditional sense, but aim to explore the tension between movement and stasis.
