'Bird of Paradise', is a photo etching on paper, in a limited edition of 30. "The model was signing Philip Larkinâs poem The Trees. The window is a view within the Hakka village in China where I was a resident artist." This work is part of Ashman's 'Flowers and Birds' series, whereby: "A poem or phrase is given to the dancer as a starting point, from which the work evolves. Further layers add new constructs until the etching process translates the final image into a coherent whole. The addition of birds, flowers and other elements allows the viewer a window into the subconscious inner world, a different reality to the visible."
