Torie Wilkinson's work displays an expert handling and understanding of paint as a medium. She captures glimpses of colour and light in the often grey city- a reminder that beauty can be found everywhere. Wilkinson attributes order to the urban jungle by finding repetition and stillness, and a sense of the absurd, in otherwise hectic spaces.

Artist Statement
I use a range of techniques and a loose organic style, evident in the rich layering of paint. My ethos is to try to work with the medium: allowing it to flow, build and dissolve earlier elements as much as possible to enable each piece to develop over time. My recent work, focuses on urban street scenes, each imbued with an inherent lightness or human touch which I have noted and rendered. I have scrupulously photographed my native South London, and it is from this collection of images of the city and its inhabitants that I have drawn my inspiration.Read More...
