My paintings translate an archive of photographic material sourced from old photos and photo postcards. Drawing provides an essential link between my source imagery and the final paintings and is key to expressing the depth and character of the portrait.
My recent work is a collection of Edwardian actresses. My fascination with this era provided the basis for reconstructing and reclaiming these women, by bringing them into the contemporary world i also aim to seek the poignancy that belongs to the Edwardian era. The nature of this work lends itself to the haunting sadness of forgotten lives, devoid of facial detail but with a faithful understanding of the portrait.
