With eccentric humour, Coey prepares a smorgasbord of interweaving shapes and spaces. Tiny aphorisms and home truths run through this dense overgrowth of tumultuous excitement and visual whimsy, where the dichotomy of watercolour against pen and ink creates a playful, cartoonish yearning to dream and explore. An honest approach to abstract painting and her use of Pop Art forms gives Coey’s work a special resilience to the seriousness of the everyday, imbuing it with an abundance of freshness and exuberance.

Artist Statement
“These are hard times for Dreamers...” My artistic practice is focused around daydreams and nonsensical thoughts that are hidden away in the corners of people's minds. These are depicted as explosions and implosions from the empty space surrounding a daydream as a whirl of vivid colour and illustrated details, which captures the elusive atmosphere and fluidity of the subject matter. It is something which is a temporal snapshot of the potential inner lunacy of the working mind. Acknowledging the constant flux of absurd and illogical thought patterns, these abstract designs must expand and contract to depict a thought or daydream as it ebbs and flows.Read More...
