Barton’s beautiful, entirely fictional constructions are truly literary in their approach to narrative but not at all descriptive in the construction of those narratives. Her work is mysterious and unnerving due to the utter absence of people. The work is peculiarly moving in the metaphors that describe the slightly haunted world she imagines for us.
