Starchild has spent a life in the visual and creative arts. The artist’s diverse and successful career has involved his T-shirt designs being exhibited at the V&A; work for Paramount and Disney, designing the title sequences for cult TV shows “Spaced” and the BAFTA award winning “Black Books”, and last year, directing a TV show for Channel 4. Starchild brings all this creative energy to these vibrant and layered canvases, with his unique and distinctive visual style.

My work utilizes items that are seen by many as junk; found objects, old printed ephemera, obscure packaging. The challenge for me is to create a visual language in which the beautiful and the sinister merge with the nostalgic and the contemporary in a dynamic clash of colour, media, technique and cultural reference.
My art manifests itself in a series of abstract, emotive and symbolic “statements”, which attempt to express my personal response to a ridiculous and chaotic world constantly in flux. The Universe is a giant pile of junk from which I want to cut, paste and create as I desire.
A second generation Asian, I’ve had a culturally schizophrenic upbringing- sharing allegiance to - but never truly feeling part of my Indian Heritage nor my British birthplace. This confusing lack of grounding has played a major role in influencing my work, which, like me, defiantly refuses classification.
