New Blood Art Statement

Aida is a compassionate, tender and very vigilant observer of human beings and the often alien surroundings that are of their own making. Whether depicting Japanese ceremonies in pastoral settings, or attending to a spirit of mysticism still faintly breathing in our urban settings, Aida always conjures up immersive atmospheres; sympathetic to how humans experience them. Whether depicting the grey of the city, sun-dappled autumn or a velvety drapery of darkness, Aida makes the world briefly intimate again, as suddenly as a cherry blossom tree.

Artist Statement

I am a painter-printmaker living in London. I was born in Jindajii, Tokyo, a town with a Japanese temple dedicated to the Water God. Water is worshipped there, and growing up, I was surrounded by wetlands, streams and rivers. My family even had a well in their kitchen. Living now in a London I find arid, my artistic outpourings show a quest to return to my roots and a compassion for humanity.

My works are the visual equivalent of the Haiku, the Japanese 17 syllable verse. I invite the viewer to use their imagination and engage with my imagery: dew, raindrops, rainstorms and urban lives.
