Artist Statement
I select often everyday scenes, the sort of places we may well pass by without really noticing. These locations are not exotic nor would they stop you in tracks if you happened upon them. They contain a beauty so subtle that only when they have been captured in photographic form is it possible to really appreciate them. I try to convey the beauty of their simplicity, to resist the opinion that there needs to be more in a photographic image in order for it to be considered an engaging landscape. There is an inherent peace in these simple landscapes and I reflect this in the style of my photography.I see my art like documents, with my goal being to accurately document locations in hope that the spirit of that place will be conveyed. There is little or no explanation to accompany my work and pieces are rarely titled. I want the viewer to create their own ideas, thoughts and emotions about the images I produce. I hope this will allow them to potentially engage on a deeper level and draw their own conclusions as to why the picture has been taken.
