New Blood Art Statement
Bernays' paintings are landscapes of personal interaction, poems to the love of line. Blogging with the Huffington Post, Bernays is a prolific, experimental and engaging artist whose work is gaining momentum. Her passion to express herself in response to the world she lives in - results in a wide and varied range of material. Bernays cites a rather eclectic mix of Ken Howard, Degas and Vettriano as infuences.
Bernays has in the past gone against the formalities of the life studio and attended strip clubs to make drawings - driven by an enquiry into an unknown side of human nature. Perhaps more commonly a subject of male artists, this act of inquiry shows Amy's fearless approach to life and conventions. More recently she turns the same tender and curious eye to the experience of motherhood.

Artist Statement
Sometimes I want to crawl into the landscapes that I create, build a house there or make a sand castle. I see a perfect future, an ideal man, a woman I would like to be, the land I want to return home to.Ken Howard has been a great mentor and inspiration for me. His seascapes of the beaches and harbors of Cornwall glow. He taught me the importance of chiaroscuro; that we must have darkness in order to see light, both in painting and in life.
