Stuart Barnes
BA Fine Art, Chelsea College of Art
Each of Stuart Barnes’ paintings is beautiful as he takes full advantage of the qualities of paint. Even the abstract works suggest narratives and different dimensions (both spatial and time), making this a truly intriguing body of work. - Newbloodart

Stuart Barnes' artistic practice is concerned with uncertainty. He attempts to establish a playful, incomplete, questioning relationship between the work and its context, its historical precedents and the person interacting with it. Barnes is trying to move away from a focus on the object to the relationships that an object can generate.
Painting is central to Barnes practice, however he has experimented with film, performance and installation, and finds the various elements inform each other.
"In my painting, I purposefully adopt different media and visual strategies in order that each work asks questions of the ones that preceded it. I am trying to infect systems of representation and language, preventing any consistent or final interpretation, and hopefully opening up new possibilities."
Earlier this year, his work was selected for the annual 'Survey' show which takes the most promising undergraduates from across the six University of Arts London’s art colleges,
